A wedding planner can be a bride’s very best and most valuable friend during the lead up to, and on the day of a wedding. They’ll make sure that your florist turns up on time, that the band wont be playing The Macarena during your first dance (or at all), and ensure that you’re not waiting three hours for the food to roll out. As good as your planner may be, there are a few pointers that wedding planners tend to omit from telling their brides to be. Never you mind about that because we’re bringing you the top 10 things that your Wedding Planner won’t tell you.
Flowers, flowers, flowers
They likely have arrangements and relationships with florists, so they will almost always be recommending you to their friends regardless of your price range. Your planner won’t tell you that you can get your flowers wholesale and skip the nasty invoice if you’re willing to do a little DIY with the arrangements.
Keep the Wedding a secret shhh
The moment you mention the W word to vendors is the moment you’ve got yourself a price tag that has suddenly doubled, or even tripled. Your photographer will go from $1500 for the day, to $5000 with the simple mention of that 7-letter word. Do yourself a favour and ask for a white chocolate cake, rather than a white chocolate wedding cake.
Don’t get your heart stuck on that Pinterest wedding
Pinterest perfect is every brides dream, but it’s important to use that pin board as more of an inspiration rather than your exact mock-up. A wedding planner can do wonders, but they can’t replicate the exact wedding that has been circulating Pinterest. Just as a makeup artist can contour your face like a Kardashian, but they can’t make you look like Kim.
The ‘Day-of-coordinator’ is a real thing
From florals, to food and drinks, to venue, the list goes on. Weddings are expensive, and for some people a Wedding Planner is a luxury that you just can’t squeeze into the budget. Well, now you’re in luck. Day-of-coordinators will show up on the day and take the pressure off you, your mothers and your bridesmaids. He/she will keep things running smoothly while you lap up of the most important days of your life.
Your friend is a photographer, and is willing to do it cheap? DON’T DO IT
Beware of hiring ANYONE that you know personally from taking part in your wedding. It sounds nice, and of course we encourage you supporting your friends wherever plausible, but-my friend, your wedding is not the time! Think of the awkwardness were your best friend’s son/wedding photographer to edit your photos in the complete opposite way that you’d discussed. Buyers beware.
BYO is a no. Cash bar? Please don’t
Making your guests feel like they are being included into your special day and that they can enjoy it as such is important. If you’re feeling tight on cash and don’t know how much further those pennies can stretch, it’s important not to completely abandon the drinks. Rather than making them feel the financial burden of a cash bar, opt for beer and wine over the heftier spirits in order to minimise costs. You guests will appreciate it, and you’ll find that everyone will have a much better time.
Take a few
How many times have you heard newly weds say post-wedding that it went so quick, they can barely remember the day? This is why it is so very important to take a few moments you’re your significant other to appreciate your surroundings, every now and then. We recommend right after the ceremony, and after the guests have eaten (around the time that things get a little livelier). Sit back with your beloved, and soak in the fact that family and friends who are celebrating your love surround you.
Try Ebay
Renting the table settings, cloths, and cutlery, along with all the other bits and bobs that are necessary for a wedding can prove to be exceedingly expensive. Why not check out places like Gumtree and Ebay to see what is to offer on there. It’s highly likely that other couples that splashed out for their weddings’ and no longer need 150 chairs lying around.
Of course, we love our Wedding Planners; they’ll fight our fights, and battle to the end in order to fulfil our every Bridezilla-esqe request. These were just a few extra tips to make sure that your wedding day goes as perfectly as you envision it.
