Becoming a Homebody
Each day that passes we are hearing that there is a real prospect that we may have to go into isolation, to remove ourselves from the world around us and for many this is a frightening thought, whilst for others it is what dreams are made of. So how do we get a good balance of making the most of our time at home whilst making sure we don’t go stir crazy?
Attitude: At Homebodii a positive attitude is everything to us. View this time as a time to recharge, how often do you find yourself saying, I wish I had more me time, family time, home time.
Do things that you have always say you don’t have time to do:
• Read that book you have always wanted to.
• Do the much needed wardrobe clean out or start your spring cleaning early.
• Get creative in the kitchen – so much fun can be had in the kitchen and it’s something the whole family can enjoy.
• Plan your next holiday – why not look at your next adventure.
• Bring out your favourite family board games.
• Watch the classics (see our Homebodii favourites further down.
• Start a blog, write in your journal, finish that mood board.
• Sort out your photos and creative some photobooks.
And being at home doesn’t mean needing to be confirmed in four walls. Go outside and be in your garden, it is still important to get fresh air and sunshine during this time. (And don’t worry about being seen in your cosy Homebodii PJ’s they look like stylish loungewear)
TAKE CARE OF ONE ANOTHER
As we are being ask to implement social distancing, self-monitoring and even quarantine play into containment efforts, there is a real issue of loneliness. Whilst we may not be able to hug one another we can still let each other know that we care. Text your work colleagues in the morning to wish them a great work day ahead and to call if they need anything. Pick up the phone or FaceTime with family and friends. Write a beautiful card/note and pop it into your elderly neighbours letter box or slide under their door to let them know someone is thinking of them and include your phone number in case they need someone to talk to or pick something up for them. Send a care package to let someone special know you are thinking of them. (Our new Homebodii gift boxes have everything a homebody needs) We may not be able to be right beside someone but we all know we can be on the other side of the world and still let someone know we care.
WORKING FROM HOME
Now if your time also includes working from home it’s important to figure out what works best from you. Our first tip is keep a normal sleep scheduled (of course in your favourite Homebodii PJ’s! ). Go to bed and wake up at your usual time, you will find you are more productive. It Is also important to maintain your regular working hours, having clear guidelines for when to work and when finish for the day will help you to create and maintain work-life balance.
It is easy to get distracted so it is a great idea to write yourself a plan. Have a daily to do list and tick it off. At the end of each day write out what hasn’t been completed and add anything that needs to happen tomorrow, that way you are ready to start the moment you walk into your at home workspace.
Find an enjoyable place to work at home, for one our team it is sitting on their back deck with natural light beaming through and clean fresh air whilst overlooking the pool. Yours maybe a beautiful study space or the dining room table. Open a window, light a candle, have some calming yet motivating music playing in the background, a glass of water and your favourite tea or coffee cup makes an at home workspace so much more enjoyable.
Reach out to your work colleagues and organise an online chat room or video conference. And if you have family at home communicate openly about your work commitments and suggest lunch together.
NUTURING YOURSELF AND YOUR LOVED ONES
We have all heard the saying that you need to look after yourself in order to look after others. So we asked our team their top tips for what they do:
“We always told to eat a healthy diet, but after a while I felt like I was just repeating the same old recipes. I wasn’t always creative in the kitchen but I downloaded the “Deliciously Ella” app and its helped me to bring a healthy variety to each meal. When I eat heathy and know my family is eating healthy it feels good.”
“Exercise is really important for both my physical and mental state. I love do enjoy my weekly Pilates class and at the beginning of the year downloaded the Centr app by Chris Hemsworth which I do at home. I schedule time everyday and its help me to remain focused, motivated, fit and healthy.”
“Each night after the kids are in bed I start my self-time routine. At first I felt guilty but now I realise how revitalised I feel since doing this routine. I give myself a mini facial taking time to take off the day and put some moisture and nourishment back in, after showing I take my beautiful body oil and massage into my skin. I then step into my favourite PJ’s, Homebodii of course! and make myself a cup of camomile tea and open my favourite book, its perfect!”
“I need the outdoors, in fact being outside brings me so much joy. I have started doing my daily yoga practice on my outside deck in the morning, I love the fresh air and sunlight touching my skin. I follow this will 10 minutes of meditation and it makes the perfect start for the day.”
The key message to our beautiful soul is to eat right and get plenty of rest, sleep, fresh air and exercise. Keep yourself healthy and fit and practicing good self-care.
