The kitchen table has become the “office” and video has replaced face-to-face meetings. And with many people fully embracing the benefits of working from home (no commute time! Working from the couch!) it looks set to continue as the new work norm even when it is safe to go back to office.
This big shift in work culture has signalled a shift in office attire and begs the question, what do you wear to work from your kitchen table, living room sofa or bedroom desk that checks the style, comfort and Zoom-appropriate boxes?
Your WFH wardrobe checklist
When we went to the office 9 to 5, five days a week, our wardrobe often was segmented into an “office” wardrobe and a “weekend” wardrobe. And those two wardrobes never mixed. However, once we started working from home, let’s be honest, style and motivation to get dressed up for work kind of went out the window because who knew how to dress for the “office” at our bedroom desk?
But, feeling good in your clothes can be pretty powerful. When you’ve nailed your look, you feel motivated, ready to take on the day and confident in yourself. It’s similar to how starting each morning with something that motivates you, like taking your favourite online Pilates or yoga class or getting outdoors for a run or a walk with a buddy or your best four-legged furry friend, sets you up with a positive mindset for the rest of the day.
So, what is on the WFH wardrobe checklist?
- You need to feel great wearing it and look forward to getting dressed each day
- Zoom-ready
- Stylish
- Comfortable
- Versatile so it can take you from your home desk to doing the school run, picking up a few things at the shops and then back to your desk/kitchen table for a video meeting with your team
